We can obtain a unbelievable snowfall or snowstorm with blowing blizzard snow going long distances from heights of 14 feet above the ground.

Snow machines produce a “cone” of snow which is smallest near the machine and disperses as you get further away creating a “curtain effect” Our snow units archives distances of 25- 80 feet indoors, while with outdoors winds going further. We can increase the distances and direction of the overall effected area through the use of judiciously place effect fans in combination of grouping our high output high - volume machines.

The difference is in the true Evaporative Snow ™ machines and Evaporative Snow® fluid used and the smaller flake size we can generate. Our system uses Evaporative Snow ® Patented Technology (US patent no. 6,868,691) devices and fluid for realistic simulated snowflakes for snowfall events both indoor and outdoor. The snow machine has a built-in blower which blows the aerated snow fluid off the modulating sock at high velocity, which creates 4 different sizes of light and airy snowflakes. Plays such as “A Christmas Carol”, ballets like “The Nutcracker”, and all those holiday pageants and concerts generally call for a snow fall at least once during the performance. It's very difficult to assess identically priced snow displays from different sources. Although it is important to compare estimates of proposed material content and caliber of the equipment the sizes of the flakes and how good the snow will look, it is equally important to consider the proven track record and quality of the team that will provide the gear and the expertise along with the enthusiasm. Not All Snow Generating Systems Are Equal

For those who want the very best realistic simulated snow flakes, falling and blowing snow, allow Magic F/X to custom design an installation of our high volume machines that’s right for your location. Our snow system simulates large scale falling and blowing snow and can be placed on free standing tripods, trusses, roofs, batons, or a catwalk. Our snow falls on cue and dissolves on contact, leaving no residue spots with absolutely no clean up.

We are often hired after a client has rented or bought one of the cheap, consumer grade commercially available inferior snow machine. These other machines have a great tendency to produce larger agglomerates, which in turn lead to excessive moisture buildup in the surrounding area while the larger flakes looking more like soap suds falling. Plus they can't get much distance.

The final result with OUR system is a great out put spray of evaporative dry snow that creates an artificial snowfall that is truly free from wet residue of any type. The illusionary snow that is produced ranges from a gentle cloud of snow in a wide horizontal area to a blizzard snow covering a large area. The individualized smaller flakes provide a cloud of gently falling snow that is truly more realistic than anything currently available. In fact, if you take a single larger flake and rub it between your fingers it will disappears dryly into nothing.

Our system will allows us to be flexible and creative. With a combo of a snow machine and special effects fan we can produce a shower of dry falling "soft fluffy snowflakes" which evaporate on contact and covering a 40' x 80' area with just one grouping of machine-fan combo.
Installing the snow machines is easy on outside rooftops, balconies, and ledges, or second floor levels on the inside. Simply add the lighting of the snow and it' perfect.

The gear can be hung on a truss for indoor snow shows or outdoor shows events.

Units on rooftops will provide the best coverage; one machine will cover up to 1000 square feet outdoors. We recommend placing machines every 10-30 feet. The system can go on ground based truss or tripods lifts set at the correct height.

Effect Fans helps the Snow stays In The Air Four Times Longer
Our snow machine uses exclusive technology allowing the simulated snowflakes to travel further than other systems, using our snow machine wind machine combo, which distributes the best. We also can incorporate the Arctic-Blast Wind Machine or Hurricane Fan™ to direct the flakes to blow from a range of 40 to 100 feet and allowing the snowflakes to hang in the air four (4) times longer with our evaporating snow fluid.

You can increase the overall effected area through the use of judiciously placed fans, both near the machine and on the ground. Fans
near the machine (some larger machines have these incorporated into their design) will help disperse the snow into a larger area. Fans on the ground will also help with dispersion, as well as provide beautiful updrafts and swirls.

The use of special effect fans dries the water from the flakes within the first 90 seconds of travel due to the evaporating snow fluid. This makes the snowflakes lighter as they fall. This lighter snow stays in the air four (4) times longer, which translates into Four (4) times more volume of snow falling at your event. That's more snow in the air at any given time. We can adjust the flow, distance, flake-size, and direction. Once adjusted all that is required is to light the snow correctly.
Within 90 seconds the flakes are dry and gone!

We can also provide falling and blowing snow up to 50 feet high from the ground level machine for a quiet blizzard snowstorm effect live on any stage. Go for the excitement of color with a UV snow option! Add a professional UV light and experience light pink, light blue, or bluish white snowflakes. A real show stopper!

The Right Evaporative Snow® Solution
The simulated snowflake size, as well as using a patented Evaporative Snow ™ solution foam flakes, which is the key that makes the Snow dry in 90 seconds. We provide an Evaporative Snow ® that truly evaporates upon impact, residue free. Ideally you want to set the flake size(over 100 flake sizes) to the height of the machine so that the snow evaporates just as it hits the ground. The further up the bigger the flake. The air pressure in the snowflake is greater than the surrounding air pressure, which keeps the Flake inflated, much like a child's balloon. Don't accept anything less than Evaporative Snow ™ fluid trademark.

Assuming air currents keep it aloft and no one breaks it, it will remain intact until enough water evaporates from its surface, and the film can no longer maintain surface cohesion then the bubble's internal air pressure causes it to burst. In other words, it dries out. As it does so, the walls get thinner until they are not strong enough to contain the pressure, and the "balloon" pops. While evaporative snow liquid does contain water, it also contains evaporative elements to make the "flakes" disintegrate more rapidly. This setting produces a very aesthetically pleasing and moderate snowfall.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Evaporative Snow made of?
Evaporative Snow ™ is a laboratory formulated foam based solution that makes the brightest looking evaporative snow product. It is 98 percent water and two percent surfactant. Surfactants are elastic chemicals that make the hollow flakes. This solution, used in our snow machines, creates a realist looking snowfall. The solution is air aerated at 1/10,000. The water starts to evaporate within seconds making the flakes become smaller and lighter until they disappear. The surfactant chemical becomes microscopic particles. The surfactants used in our formulation are of the highest cosmetic grade possible. They are non-allergenic, biodegradable, non-toxic and non-staining.

Will the Evaporative Snow ™ stain anything?
When our machines are used properly, they leave no moisture. We have been making it snow for years, and we have never received one compliant about staining. Our fluid uses De ionized filtered water; this product was originally used in the movie industry so that if the snow landed on a camera lens it would not leave a water ring.

Is it slippery?
The product, when used with the right settings, can run continually without causing any damp or slippery surfaces. We need a starting height of 15 - 30 ft

Can it be used around food?
Many caters and event planners use this product as part of a display, entrance ways to a party or as a “wow” effect as guests sit to have a full course meal. It is also used for weddings as the bride and groom cut the cake. It is even kosher.

Does it have an odor?
No, it has no odor or taste.

So what is it?
This is not ice or real frozen snow. The quick answer is its a fake snow flake, which is dense foam blown through a special filter that creates small and various sizes of tiny white bubble clusters creating the illusion of snow. Once it falls to ground, snow will remain white for up to 90 seconds when it will disappear DRY.

All snow will disappear but make sure it disappears Quickly and DRY without residue.

The photo above is the result (suds residue, that will turn into residue) from using cheaper materials that is NON EVAPORATING snow fluid and NON EVAPORATING snow machines. The snowflakes that landed in water turned into soapy suds because they use a soapy (Mr.) bubble like formula that comes out as a wet snowflake that can have an odor as well. Many claim the flakes will disappear on contact, but make sure they don't leave the event with stains, spots on the floor, glasses and the surface with slippery spotty residue.

The right machine makes all the difference, we do not use any of these NON EVAPORATING (wet snow) consumer grade brand machines:

We couldn't get the results we do with any of these machines. These loud machines cost a few hundred dollars and throw wet foam snow shorts distances of snow 15' and 8' wide. Check what machines your booking.

Snow flakes should be 3/16" to 1/2 " in size to look real, 1/2" for 30 foot + heights of fall. Smaller snow flakes equals more snow in the the air falling. Once again consumer grade machines won't do the task of making small flakes and really have little control over flake size and have very little consistency.

This season I received a call from a larger Florida City which bought 30 consumer grade machines (the brand listed above) and had city workers set the machines up for a city holiday event. On testing the snow machines they were very unhappy with the results of these machines and the snowfall not looking like realistic snowflakes (large clusters of foam), calling us days before the event to and pleaded us to come down and do the event with our gear. Rigging snow machine is not a plug and play job, staging a professional snowfall you'll need a experienced company and will need more equipment than just the snow machines to make it all work right.

Photos can sometime catch snow moving in motion, which can make snowflakes look large when it's not. The depth of field of a camera can make snowflakes look big if some flakes are very close to the camera and some flakes are far away as well.

How Many Snow Machines

On an average snow effect job we use 2- 4 show machines for a one day holiday event, and 8 - 10 - 16 machines for a roof top Mall or Retail Center longer run. Let's talk a bit about coverage, and getting the most out of your snow effect. The thing to remember when creating a snow effect on stage is that it doesn't need to snow over the entire set of area or the entire courtyard. Snow will blow, fall and move around from one place to another in any given location.

On stage usually, a "curtain" of snow along the front of the scene is enough for stage shows without a fan, one machine will create a "cone" pattern of snow that is about 15' wide by about 35' long hung at 20 feet high.

For Malls and Retail Shopping Centers more coverage is needed for outdoor small or inside courtyards and the staging of multiple machine grouping is suggested with our high volume high power machines along with our signature Snowman. Let us propose a plan based on your budget. Daily cost can run just as little as live entertainment a mall would hire for the christmas season. Plus some shopping centers see increased sales every time it "snows."

Lighting Snow

One of the biggest challenges, and most often overlooked factor when using snow, is proper lighting. Back lighting, and to some extent side lighting, are vital to the audience being able to see a snow effect well. If lit from the front only, the effect's visibility will be poor at best. Lighting can be especially challenging in a ballroom or other "total environment" setting or venue, when your audience will be viewing the snow from multiple angles and positions in the room. Ideally, you want your lighting to come from above, yet below the snow machines, like hiding the snow machines in the dark above the light sources. By hiding the source of the snow, you add to the sense of wonder this effect often has on an audience.
